Job summary

Carriage Services is seeking an Embalmer at Heritage Funeral Homes to prepare and embalm the deceased for interment, cremation, or other disposition with utmost respect. You will use embalming instruments safely and assist with casketing and cosmetics, ensuring client family wishes are met.

The role is 90% preparation work, with some funeral directing tasks. A valid Embalmer’s license is required; Funeral Director’s license is highly preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; some college or college degree preferred.
• Strong embalming, cosmetics, and casketing background is required.
• Position will be 90% preparation work, 10% or less funeral directing and arrangements.
• 2 years of experience as a licensed Embalmer.
• Must be able to handle multiple cases per day, work by yourself and be self-motivated and well organized.
• Valid Embalmer’s license - Valid Funeral Director’s License highly preferred.
• Valid state issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record; and
• Attention to detail is critical.
• High degree of overall computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and embalms the deceased for interment, cremation, or other disposition in compliance with legal requirements and with the utmost respect and dignity.
• Properly and safely utilizes embalming instruments and machinery in accordance with company guidelines.
• Dresses, applies cosmetics, and performs casketing duties.
• Places remains in visitation room and sets up room to comply with client family wishes.
• Prepares deceased for transportation as needed.
• Answers questions and assists with serving the needs of client families.
• Ensures proper paperwork, including permits, logs, identification tags, and certificates are completed accurately and timely and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Utilizes personal protective equipment and adheres to relevant operational and safety procedures.
• Stocks and cleans preparation room and refrigeration unit.
• Works on call/ first call, as needed; and
• Instructs and oversees work of Apprentice Embalmers on cases and paperwork.

Compensation: $28.85 - $31 per hour plus overtime & stipend

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The duties associated with this position are generally performed in an indoor office setting; however, some duties may be performed outdoors. Outdoor duties may require exposure to natural elements such as inclement weather, extreme temperatures, uneven ground, dust, gas, and/or fumes.

Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity and must be willing to work safely and comply with the Company’s safety procedures, including wearing any personal protective equipment that may be required.

Employees in this role are regularly required to climb, sit, stand, bend, kneel, and frequently lift up to 75 pounds, and may be required to lift up to 100 pounds.

Performance of this position’s duties may also require power reaching, pushing, and pulling.

This position’s duties require routine exposure to chemicals and/or blood borne pathogens.

Must be able to drive a company vehicle and maintain a good driving record and must be insurable under company vehicle insurance.
