POSITION TYPE : ABEM Boarded or Eligible Emergency Physician - Democratic Group

LOCATION : Chesapeake, VA

SHIFT : Day / Night

JOB TYPE : Full-Time Permanent

Job Summary :

We are in search of a professional and proficient Emergency Medicine Physician with specific expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and support of acutely ill and injured patients, such as trauma victims and patients with multiple organ dysfunction.

Focus must be to stabilize patients as soon as possible and determine the best next steps.Must have experience treating life-threatening illnesses, establishing effective patient care plans, and referring patients to the appropriate specialists. To succeed in this highly stressful environment, the ideal candidate should have superb communication and interpersonal abilities, with excellent judgment skills.

Must have excellent organization skills as well as the ability to lead and work with a team, often while working under pressure.

Responsibilities :

  • Assess patients who enter the emergency room immediately and oversee emergency recovery.
  • Request appropriate medical tests and based on the tests, create a treatment plan.
  • Provide care from the point of first contact, working swiftly to stabilize and diagnose the patient and perform any life-saving procedures.
  • Diagnose and treat patients, provide the appropriate amount of medication to treat and help stabilize the patients pain level.
  • Stabilize and comfort patients, provide any further care necessary, monitor the patients progress, and create detailed reports that will allow other physicians to properly treat the patient once they have left the ER.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of hospital staff for proper patient care or discharge and provide necessary instructions to patients.
  • Maintain the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Associations Bill of Rights for patients.

Requirements :

  • Current medical license in state of practice required.
  • Certification required from the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
  • Three (3) plus years of residency training.
  • Capable of working up to 12 hour shifts.
  • Excellent communication, compassion, and organizational skills.
  • Strong clinical diagnostic skills.
  • Capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to communicate information in layman terms to patients and / or their families.
  • Specialists must have knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, cardiology, neurology, various monitoring techniques, resuscitation, and many other time-restrained medical techniques and procedures.
  • Compassionate with excellent communication skills.
