Who We Are

Elliot Hospital’s Women’s and Children’s Services are dedicated to addressing the specific health and wellness needs of women and their children. Our Maternity unit is a 24-26 bed unit averaging 14 mother/baby patients with 55 employees. Patients include high and low risk postpartum mothers & babies (35 weeks gestation and above), substance-exposed infants, and management of conditions like hyperbilirubinemia and hypoglycemia in the newborn, as well as post gynecological surgery.

About The Job

The lactation consultant provides comprehensive lactation services to meet the needs of professional providers, antepartum, postpartum lactating women, and their families within Elliot Hospital and the community.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with Women and Children’s health team and families to promote successful lactation. Consult and report the needs of lactating families to healthcare providers. Perform daily lactation rounds on Maternity, NICU, Pediatrics, and other departments. Assess, plan, implement, and document individualized lactation plans.
• Demonstrate expertise in managing complex breastfeeding problems and at-risk infants. Perform follow-up calls, provide telephone support on the Lactation Warm Line, and manage outpatient or referral appointments. Continuously evaluate and update care plans.
• Establish and maintain protocols and guidelines related to breastfeeding care. Evaluate and assist with breastfeeding aids and equipment. Provide ongoing education for nursing and medical staff. Offer resources and current research data on breastfeeding to families and providers. Provide consultation for Moms Group and other Elliot services as needed.

Who You Are

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (BSN preferred)
• Current RN licensure in New Hampshire, a multistate license, or a compact state
• Certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners
• At least three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting
• Ability to obtain and maintain BLS certification during employment
