ELL Tutor
Job Summary
The ELL Tutor provides assistance and motivation to students identified as English Language Learners. Works closely with students throughout the school day to help them learn and succeed in all classroom settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicate and work effectively with teachers, co‑workers, parents, and other caregivers as part of an educational team.
- Practice professional, legal, and ethical conduct toward students, parents, and colleagues.
- Motivate and assist students to build self‑esteem, discipline, interpersonal skills, independent thinking, and active learning.
- Use developmentally appropriate instructional interventions for curricular activities in cognitive, motor, self‑help, social interaction, and language development areas.
- Understand and appreciate diversity in children’s cultural heritage, lifestyles, value systems, and human rights.
- Gather formal and informal data regarding students and provide feedback to teachers to improve instruction.
- Participate in parent‑teacher conferences to facilitate communication.
- Work with the ELL teacher to deliver the ELDA test and collaborate on K‑2 as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
Qualifications
Under the Every Student Succeeds Act prior to starting, you must have one of the following:
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education.
- Associate degree or higher.
- Voluntary certification through the Board of Educational Examiners (Para‑educator Certification).
- Successful completion of the ACT WorkKeys® (NCRC Assessment).
Additionally, applicants should be able to demonstrate fundamental job skills and may be required to complete ACT WorkKeys® assessments in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC).
Education and Experience
Minimum education includes a high school diploma and previous experience working with children. Bilingual skills are preferred.

- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups.
- May communicate with parents or guardians of students.
- Effective listening skills.
Analytical and Reasoning Skills
- Ability to gather, collate, and classify data.
- Problem‑solving skills to identify issues and create action plans.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
May be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. The employee generally works indoors.
Technology Skills
Must be able to use the computer, process electronic requests, retrieve, and print information from various computer programs when needed.
Other Duties as Assigned
Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee, necessary and appropriate to achieve the program and/or district goals and objectives.
