ELL Teacher

The purpose of the Bilingual Teacher is to provide academic instructional support to English Learners. S/he will develop and deliver lesson plans to groups and individual students, utilizing academic development language standards.

Job Summary

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Instructs English Learners for the purpose of improving their success in academics and skills
  • Develops lesson plans and delivers group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines
  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans
  • Obtains training for and assists with the administration of language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language proficiency (MODEL and/or W-APT and screenings, ACCESS test)
  • Maintains organized records of documentation regarding student achievement in core courses
  • Collaborates with English Learners coordinator and other staff to support students experiencing academic performance challenges related to English language learning
  • Interprets student performance data and implements appropriate support structures
  • Communicates and confers effectively both orally and in written form with students, parents, colleagues, and administration

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
  • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Knowledge of ELL principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with language needs
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to co‑teach and support students in both large and small group settings
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

Education
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • ELL Endorsement
  • Masters Degree in related area preferred.
Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
