Job Description:

The job of ELL Teacher develops bilingual students' ability to effectively perform courses of study in the English language by implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; providing methods to support and reinforce classroom goals at home; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; developing appropriate lesson plans and instructional techniques; evaluating students' level of English fluency and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. This job reports to the Principal.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
• Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in ELL/ESL, or eligibility to obtain one. Math dual certification preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Essential Functions:

• Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
• Administers developmental testing programs, subject-specific assessments, etc., to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations and achievements; develops methods for improvement and reinforces classroom goals at home.
• Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
• Counsels students to improve performance, health, problem-solving techniques, and personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and subject-specific assignments to meet individual student needs.
• Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
• Instructs students to improve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Manages student behavior to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
• Monitors students in various educational environments to maintain safety and positivity.
• Participates in meetings to exchange information relevant to job functions.
• Prepares written materials such as grades, attendance, and anecdotal records to document student progress.
• Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse) to ensure safety and compliance with policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support the work unit's efficiency.

• Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance:
