Job summary

Sterling Heights High School in Sterling Heights, MI seeks a Language Acquisition Aide to assist in English language acquisition and testing. The role supports students individually or in groups, under teacher supervision, with assignments and enrichment activities. Duties include translating communications, coordinating language support during conferences, and maintaining attendance records. Part-time schedule runs 7:45am-2:00pm, 195 days per year, at $17.78 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must understand, speak, read and write English.
• Basic knowledge of additional languages preferred (Arabic, Vietnamese, Albanian, Bengali).

Responsibilities

• Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Guide students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, language acquisition, remedial work) for the purpose of fostering student success.
• Implement under the supervision of the teacher instructional programs (e.g. tests, homework assignments, make-up work, lesson plans) for the purpose of improving academic success.
• Perform on occasion clerical functions (e.g. copying, scheduling, faxes, bulletin boards) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator.
• Perform record keeping (e.g. student work log) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials.
• Support ELL students (e.g. attending parent-teacher conferences) for the purpose of assisting in communication to foster students’ success.
• Translate verbal and written communication(s) for the purpose of assisting students in the classroom.
• Maintain regular personal attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring efficient delivery of services to the District.
