Job summary

Kansas City Missouri School District is seeking an ELL Paraprofessional to support English Language Learners in high school settings. You will work with teachers to implement ELL goals, prepare materials, and facilitate home–school communication in both English and Spanish.

This in-person role requires coordinating with families, attending trainings, and participating in planning committees to promote student growth in language skills.

Qualifications

• 60 college hours with a GPA of at least 2.5.
• Fluent in English (read, write, listen, speak).
• Fluent in Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Work with teachers in team teaching, planning and daily routines.
• Provide instructional and language support for ELL students.
• Understand and communicate ELL goals and objectives.
• Assist in preparing classroom materials for ELL students.
• Cooperate with teachers, students, parents and administration.
• Accompany teacher on home visits and assist with family engagement.
• Participate in program planning committees and parent involvement activities.
• Attend orientation and in-service training with interpretation as able.
• Plan individual and group activities to support language growth.
• Instruct on personal hygiene and self-care.
• Assist with calls to parents in home language regarding school concerns.
• Facilitate communication between school, students, teachers and administration.
• Assist with Access screening and testing of ELLs.

Position Summary:

To work with classroom teachers to provide support in academic areas for English Language Learners. Work with students to comprehend and demonstrate achievement.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

• Work with teachers in team teaching, team planning, and daily routines.
• Provide instructional and language support for Ell high school students
• Understand, support and be able to assist in implementing and communicating ELL goals and objectives.
• Assist in preparing classroom materials for Ell students
• Work cooperatively with teachers, students, parents and school administration.
• Accompany teacher on home visits and assist in establishing support with families.
• Participate on program planning committees, and parent involvement activities.
• Attend orientation and in-service training sessions providing interpretation as able.
• Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in languages
• Instruct children in practice of personal cleanliness and self-care.
• Support the staff with phone call in the parents home language in reference to school concerns.
• Facilitate communication between school, students, teachers and administration.
• Assist with Access screening and testing of English Language Learners.
• Other duties may be assigned.

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Minimum Qualifications)

• 60 college hours with a grade point average of at least 2.5
• Fluent in English domains, read, write, listen and speaking
• Fluent in Spanish

In Order to #LevelUp in This Role, You'll Need: (Preferred Qualifications)

• Three (3) years successful experience working with students and their parents
• Course work in education

Physical Demands:

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. The job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: In person, 10 months, 5 days per week, 8.5 hours per day

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $17.59 to $34.04 Per Hour
