Job summary

Kansas City Missouri School District is seeking an ELL Paraprofessional to support English Language Learners in a high school setting. You will work with teachers in team teaching and planning, providing language support and helping implement ELL goals and objectives.

The role requires 60 college hours, fluency in English and Spanish, and collaboration with families and school staff. In-person duties include preparing materials and coordinating with teachers and administrators.

Qualifications

• 60 college hours with a GPA of at least 2.5.
• Fluent in English: read, write, listen and speak.
• Fluent in Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Work with teachers in team teaching, planning, and daily routines.
• Provide instructional and language support for ELL high school students.
• Understand, support and assist in implementing and communicating ELL goals and objectives.
• Assist in preparing classroom materials for ELL students.
• Work cooperatively with teachers, students, parents and school administration.
• Accompany teacher on home visits and assist in establishing support with families.
• Participate on program planning committees and parent involvement activities.
• Attend orientation and in-service training sessions providing interpretation as able.
• Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in languages.
• Instruct children in practice of personal cleanliness and self-care.
• Support staff with phone calls in the parents home language in reference to school concerns.
• Facilitate communication between school, students, teachers and administration.
• Assist with Access screening and testing of English Language Learners.

Position Summary:

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Minimum Qualifications)

• 60 college hours with a grade point average of at least 2.5
• Fluent in English domains, read, write, listen and speaking
• Fluent in Spanish

In Order to #LevelUp in This Role, You'll Need: (Preferred Qualifications)

• Three (3) years successful experience working with students and their parents
• Course work in education

Physical Demands:

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. The job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: In person, 10 months, 5 days per week, 8.5 hours per day
