POSITION SUMMARY

The English Language Learning (ELL) Instructor plays a key role in helping students strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and successfully progress through the Job Corps program. This position provides engaging, individualized instruction to English Language Learners within the Career Education Center, with a focus on improving literacy, numeracy, and academic achievement leading toward a high school diploma or GED. The ELL Instructor develops individualized achievement plans and academic goals based on each student’s needs and progress. Working collaboratively with Career Technical Training (CTT) instructors and other departments, this role helps connect classroom learning to career-focused education by integrating applied academics into technical training. This position requires a strong commitment to student development, professionalism, confidentiality, data integrity, and maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISION

May provide supervision, guidance, or oversight to staff as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver engaging and effective educational instruction to English Language Learning students, supporting progress in literacy, numeracy, GED/HSD completion, and overall academic achievement.
  • Develop and maintain individualized academic achievement plans, goals, and strategies designed to support each student’s progress and successful completion of the Job Corps program.
  • Provide individualized student support and case management, monitoring academic performance, identifying barriers to success, and coordinating appropriate interventions when needed.
  • Partner with Career Technical Training (CTT) instructors to incorporate applied academics into career-focused curricula, helping students connect classroom concepts with practical workplace skills.
  • Create and maintain an organized, structured, and positive classroom environment that supports learning, engagement, accountability, and student success.
  • Provide consistent supervision and guidance to students while reinforcing Center expectations, including dress code, behavioral standards, attendance, professionalism, and personal accountability.
  • Mentor and model the Job Corps Career Success Standards in accordance with the Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH).
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries, demonstrating respect and courtesy, and holding students accountable for their choices and behavior.
  • Proactively address student concerns and behavioral issues by identifying problems, evaluating contributing factors, determining appropriate solutions, and following through to ensure corrective action is effective.
  • Collaborate with staff across all Center departments to ensure students receive coordinated, comprehensive, and high-quality services.
  • Consistently produce accurate, thorough, and timely work while effectively planning, prioritizing, and organizing responsibilities to meet established deadlines and performance expectations.
  • Maintain strong job knowledge and continuously develop the skills necessary to effectively perform assigned responsibilities.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, and actively contribute ideas, knowledge, and recommendations during team discussions and collaborative efforts.
  • Provide accurate and timely information, documentation, and reporting as required by the Department of Labor (DOL) and Company leadership.
  • Support the Center in meeting or exceeding established DOL and Company performance goals and quality standards.
  • Follow all organizational integrity policies and procedures, ensuring the accuracy of student records and strictly prohibiting the manipulation or misrepresentation of student data.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling student, employee, or other sensitive information.
  • Maintain reliable attendance, productivity, accountability, and professional standards consistent with Center expectations.
  • Accept direction from the Center Director, Center Duty Officer, Shift Manager, or other designated leadership, including temporary assignments or responsibilities necessary to support Center operations.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited school required.
  • Masters degree from an accredited school preferred.
  • A valid in- state teaching certificate or waiver required.
  • Previous experience working with an ELL population preferred.
