General Description:

This position supports adult Spanish-speaking learners enrolled in the Spanish-language HSE program. This part-time role focuses on academic and linguistic support to help students navigate their pathway to a high school equivalency diploma and guide them in the next steps once they receive their HSE diploma.

This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant funding. Once the funds from the grant that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate degree

Bilingual in English and Spanish required

Minimum (1) year work experience supporting non-native English speaking HSE students in an Adult Education program.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is light work which requires the person in this position to occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:This position requires the person to frequently move about the OCCC campus, and other locations to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, administration, and others to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to judge, observe, and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned, to make general observations, and/or operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

Work is performed both in indoor and outdoor settings.

Work is performed during the work week including evenings and weekends. Flexibility for evening or weekend activities as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree

Minimum (1) year work experience related to academic and career coaching in an Adult education setting.

Minimum (1) year work experience supporting students in computer based test-taking and digital navigation for HSE exams.

Required Training:

Quarterly compliance training as assigned by institution

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Provide tutoring and academic coaching in Spanish for HiSET subject areas

Guide students through account creation and test registration in Spanish

Support orientations and classroom onboarding for new Spanish HSE students

Assist with computer-based learning tools and instructional platforms

Check in with students to encourage attendance and academic progress

Help students build confidence in test-taking and digital navigation

Coordinate with instructors to identify and support students needing extra help

Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment for Spanish-speaking learners

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergencies, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
