Job summary

Transportation Security Administration seeks qualified Federal Air Marshals to protect commercial flights from terrorism and other threats. The position requires discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to act independently in high-pressure situations.

Officers travel frequently, may be assigned to domestic or international flights, and must maintain firearms proficiency and pass rigorous screening. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria, including citizenship and background checks.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating problem-solving, planning, organization, and effective written and verbal communication.
• A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or a qualifying combination of education and relevant experience.
• A qualifying combination of post-secondary education and relevant experience may be used to meet the education requirement.

Responsibilities

• Protect commercial passenger flights from terrorist activity, aircraft piracy, and other threats.
• Work discreetly aboard domestic and international flights.
• Assess developing situations and respond with limited backup.
• Carry a firearm and maintain required firearms proficiency.
• Conduct law enforcement, investigative, analytical, and advisory activities.
• Identify and interview witnesses or suspects when required.
• Make arrests and seek or execute warrants within legal authority.
• Participate in multi-agency operations with federal, state, and local partners.
• Support ground transportation-security and counterterrorism missions.
