Job summary

The Transportation Security Administration seeks Federal Air Marshals to protect commercial flights from terrorism and other threats. These roles involve armed duties aboard aircraft, frequent travel, irregular schedules, and on‑call assignments nationwide.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, aged 21+, able to obtain a Top Secret clearance, pass fitness tests, and meet medical standards. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is acceptable, with extensive training provided.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience or a bachelor's degree or higher, or a combination of education and experience.
• Need transcripts if education is used to qualify.
• Review vacancy carefully as qualification standards may change.

Responsibilities

• Protect commercial flights from terrorist activity, aircraft piracy, and other threats.
• Work discreetly aboard domestic and international flights.
• Assess developing situations and respond with limited backup.
• Carry a firearm and maintain required firearms proficiency.
• Conduct law enforcement, investigative, analytical, and advisory activities.
• Identify and interview witnesses or suspects when required.
• Make arrests and seek or execute warrants within legal authority.
• Participate in multi-agency operations with federal, state, and local partners.
• Support ground-based security and counterterrorism missions.
• Perform other specialized assignments, including Counter-UAS operations.
