Qualifications

• Must possess a current and unrestricted Surgical Assistant License issued by the Texas Medical Board.
• Maintain current ABSA or NSAA surgical assisting certification.
• BLS required; ACLS certification preferred.
• Minimum of two years hands-on cardiovascular surgical assisting experience.
• Strong interpersonal and professional communication with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, and perioperative staff.
• Multi-specialty surgical experience valued, especially cardiovascular, neurosurgery, orthopedics, general surgery, MIS/robotic.
• Ability to remain calm, confident, and effective under pressure.
• Foreign-trained physicians must provide TOEFL documentation when applicable.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the surgical and perioperative team to confirm preoperative documentation, consents, and case requirements.
• Verify instruments, supplies, equipment, implants, and specialty devices are available and ready.
• Provide advanced first-assisting support to cardiovascular and vascular surgeons during procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, tissue handling, and hemostasis as required.
• Complete operative documentation and participate in postoperative debriefings to support care continuity.
• Maintain sterile technique and adherence to infection-prevention protocols throughout procedures.
