Job description
Security Specialist – Raleigh Area

Permanent, On-site, 40 hours/week. Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. Integrated Mission Systems (IMS) has an immediate need for a Security Specialist in the Raleigh area. The Security Specialist will assist Security Matters Experts (FSO, CPSO & CSSO) in ensuring compliance with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), DoD regulations, and Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs). Responsibilities include personnel security, document management and accountability, physical security, and administrative functions in support of the security program via a task ticketing system to meet classified program needs.

In this role, you will support a rapidly growing security program on behalf of the U.S. DoD and the Intelligence Community. This is a full-time, on-site position. The program emphasizes high integrity and security excellence. Candidates should multitask, prioritize workload, and adapt to shifting priorities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with DoD Manuals, 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM), ICDs, and specific program requirements
  • Develop and provide security indoctrinations, debriefings, travel briefings, annual refresher trainings, and other security trainings as required
  • In-process new employees (CAC requests, classified account requests, SF 312 NDA), manage personnel clearances (SCI/SAP nominations, visit access requests in DISS and ACCS)
  • Provide personnel security guidance aligned with 13 adjudicative guidelines
  • Apply physical security concepts; maintain Intrusion Detection and Access Control Systems per DoD, ICD 705, UL 2050
  • Coordinate physical/electronic transfer of classified materials and train staff on hand-carry procedures
  • Support consistent security practices across Traditional, SCI and SAP channels
  • Interface with Program Managers on access needs and protection of sensitive information
  • Coordinate classification management and marking guidance as needed
  • Maintain document inventory and control for management, shipping, and receiving of classified material
  • Establish and maintain relationships with government and internal customers

Security Specialist Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain/maintain SCI/SAP eligibility
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years related experience OR 6-8 years of related experience in lieu of a degree
  • Excellent written communication, report writing, and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with defense contractors, DCSA, and government representatives

Security Specialist Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with 32 CFR Part 117, DoD volumes 1-4, ICD 705
  • Experience with DISS, NISS, ACCS, and eQip
  • Experience with Access Commander or similar security database
  • Experience with defense sub-contractors
  • CDSE FSO Curriculum for Possessing Facilities (required within 6 months of hire)
  • TS//SCI adjudication
