Job summary

UW-River Falls Athletics & Recreation Department is seeking an Athletics and Recreation Turf Manager to oversee field and outdoor space maintenance, ensuring safe, high-quality, and game-ready environments for varsity and intramural activities.

The role requires managing daily operations, coordinating staff, and implementing turf strategies to support performance, safety, and campus events. A strong background in turf care and safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Ability to independently manage and prioritize work in a dynamic, event-driven environment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and weather-related shifts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
• Possess or obtain Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License (Ornamental & Turf) within 6 months.
• Possess or obtain forklift and aerial lift certifications.
• Strong turf management knowledge and safety practices.
• Ability to maintain records and use scheduling/maintenance software.
• Must pass post-offer employment test.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage day-to-day operations of athletic field and outdoor recreation surface maintenance.
• Develop field preparation plans aligned with athletic schedules and game-day setup.
• Coordinate and supervise staff including scheduling, task delegation, and training.
• Monitor turf health; implement maintenance such as fertilization, aeration, irrigation, pest control.
• Oversee snow removal and weather-related response to keep fields accessible.
• Collaborate with Athletics & Recreation staff, coaches, and event management to meet sport-specific needs.
• Plan turf and landscape improvement projects for safety and aesthetics.
• Maintain grounds including walkways and spectator areas.
• Research and implement new turf management techniques.
