Job Overview
The HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) is responsible for providing essential benefits, services, and care to over 31,000 individuals with AIDS, advanced HIV, or HIV infection, along with 14,000 affected family members. HASA offers medical, social, financial, and vocational services, including cash assistance, housing, food stamps, health insurance, and job training. The program primarily receives requests from hospitals, community agencies, physicians, correctional facilities, and other health and social service providers.
Position: Eligibility Specialist
The role involves functioning as an Eligibility Worker with responsibilities including:
- Conducting initial assessments and recertification interviews, documenting information, and explaining case actions to participants.
- Determining eligibility for HASA services using automated systems like WMS, POS, and HASA WEB.
- Authorizing changes in assistance and budgets, and processing forms for Cash Assistance, Medicaid, and SNAP.
- Reviewing consumer data, entering information into systems, and processing clearances.
- Preparing detailed case decision reports and histories.
- Managing a caseload efficiently, including face-to-face interviews, paperwork, and meetings.
- Completing Fair Hearing/Aid to Continue compliance and resolutions within deadlines.
- Facilitating benefit issuance and participant notifications through agency forms.
- Generating referrals, scheduling appointments, and liaising with utility companies regarding inquiries and shut-offs.
- Verifying eligibility for special grants such as housing, furniture, clothing, and utility connection fees.
- Preparing daily case action transmittals for supervisor reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of 60 semester credits at an accredited college; or
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of relevant full-time experience in interviewing, documentation, social services, bookkeeping, customer service, or related fields; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
