Job summary

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department seeks experienced Deputy Chiefs to direct and coordinate the activities of a group of operating divisions, detention facilities, and stations.

Open recruitment is for current Sheriff's Captain candidates; the selection will form a new eligible list to replace the existing one. Emphasis on management, supervision, planning, policy evaluation, budgeting, and community relations within a large county agency.

The Sheriff’s Department of San Bernardino County

Sheriff’s Deputy Chiefs direct and coordinate the activities of a group of operating divisions, detention facilities and stations.

Recruitment is open only to current San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Captains. This recruitment will result in a new list of eligible candidates to replace the existing list of candidates.

Minimum Requirements

• Applicants must be currently employed in a regular full-time position with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department as a Sheriff’s Captain, and have at least one year of experience in said position, as of the filing deadline.
• NOTE: Clearly differentiate between Captain experience and prior experience.

Selection Process

There will be a competitive evaluation of promotability based on a departmental review of the applicants' competencies, knowledge, skills and abilities in Management, Supervision, Planning, Policies and Procedures Evaluation and Formulation, Budget Preparation and Fiscal Monitoring, and Promotion of Community Relations.
