Summary:

The Elevator Mechanic maintains, inspects, repairs, tests or modifies elevators and vertical lift systems (to include equipment, safety devices, annunciators, computer and electronic systems, portable UPS devices, and Campus View Monitoring system) in a manner that will ensure continuous, reliable, and safe operation.

Work in any of the following: DLA Headquarters Complex, Fort Belvoir, VA (HQC), Defense Supply Center Richmond, VA (DSCR), Defense Supply Center Columbus, OH (DSCC), DLA Distribution Center Susquehanna, PA (DDSP), New Cumberland, Pennsylvania.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain existing lift equipment, such as elevators and vertical lifts in good, operating condition.
  • Perform routine/preventive maintenance of elevator and vertical lift equipment to include the routine inspection and testing to assure operability and reliability of active components in the event these components are called into service.
  • Perform all non-routine/ad hoc alterations or minor repairs or equipment replacement.
  • Wire and rewire electric units.
  • Record data from inspections.
  • Read blueprints to understand the equipment.
  • Adapt to equipment-specific technology and controls.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Journeyman Level Mechanic specifically qualified and trained to work on lift equipment systems.
  • Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge (troubleshooting, meter reading, etc.).
  • Computer literacy and writing skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of related work experience.
  • Specifically qualified and trained to work on lift equipment systems
  • Journeyman Level Mechanic
  • Ability to pass a background investigation
  • Must be a US citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Elevator Technician (CET).
  • Knowledge of the following elevator and lift systems: 16 Traflomatic IV, 3,500 LBS Passenger; 2 Traflomatic IV, 10,000 LBS Freight; 10 Swift Meridia HPV-900 5 = 3,500 LBS Passenger; 10 Swift Meridia HPV-900 1 = 5,000 LBS; Swift Meridia 1 = 3,500 LBS Passenger; G & T Inc 2 = 750 LBS Wheelchair; AEMA 2 = 750 LBS Wheelchair.
