Job Summary

The Special Education Teacher will create a classroom environment that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students with special education services. Teachers will provide specially designed instruction per each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) to enable access to the general curriculum and support ongoing development.

Essential Functions

• Manage cases for students with disabilities, including IEP development and compliance with regulations.
• Deliver direct services to students as specified in their IEPs.
• Follow district procedures throughout the special education process.
• Maintain confidentiality according to FERPA and HIPAA.
• Instruct assigned classes according to schedule.
• Create a conducive learning environment.
• Plan lessons to promote student progress.
• Set classroom behavior standards.
• Use various instructional techniques to meet student needs.
• Collaborate with staff to implement accommodations and modifications.
• Maintain accurate records and assess student progress.
• Attend staff meetings and supervise instructional assistants if assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current special education teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) from the Arizona Department of Education.
• Ability to pass fingerprint and background checks.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license.
• Physical ability to lift and carry supplies up to 20 pounds and students up to 60 pounds.
• Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel if needed.
