Job summary

Buffalo Commons is seeking an Elementary Teacher (Special Education) to join as a Founding Teacher. You will lead curricula, collaborate with co-teachers, and help establish teaching and learning systems while reporting to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

You will coordinate with grade teams, focus on students with IEP goals, and build strong family partnerships to support student success in an urban charter school setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Certification in special education.
  • Track record of success in raising student achievement.
  • Experience in an urban charter school (preferred).
  • Practical written, oral, and visual communications skills.

  • Develop and implement curricula meeting student needs.
  • Scaffold, chunk, or modify instruction to meet IEP goals.
  • Monitor/report students' academic and social progress.
  • Communicate with families before and after IEP meetings.
  • Build strong relationships with student families.

About The Position

Nothing leads to student success like working with a great teacher year after year. As a Founding Teacher, you will promote the success of all students through excellence in curriculum, instruction, and community building. Additionally, you will collaborate with your grade-team and co‑teacher to lay the lasting foundations of teaching and learning systems at Buffalo Commons. The Founding Teacher reports to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
