Job summary

Danbury Public Schools in western Connecticut is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year to cover Grade 5 during a leave of absence from August 20, 2026 through November 23, 2026. Qualifications

  • Connecticut State Department of Education Elementary Certification (013)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Experience in a diverse, urban school setting preferred
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and digital learning tools
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Deliver standards-based instruction in core subject areas including literacy, math, science, and social studies
  • Create a supportive, positive, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes learning for all students
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English learners and students with IEPs/504s
  • Utilize formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress
  • Establish clear routines, expectations, and procedures to maintain a safe and orderly classroom
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and support staff to plan and implement effective instruction
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities
  • Participate in school-based teams, professional development, and data-driven planning sessions
  • Integrate technology to enhance teaching and student learning
  • Support the social-emotional development of students through positive behavior strategies and responsive practices
  • Maintain accurate student records and complete required reports and documentation

Long-Term Substitute Teacher (Leave of Absence) August 20, 2026 through November 23, 2026

Position Summary

We are seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for the 20262027 school year to serve students in grade 5. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment; implement high-quality instruction aligned to curriculum standards; and support the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. Teachers must demonstrate a commitment to equity, student-centered learning, and ongoing professional growth.

Salary

Salary and benefits are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education, available on the district website.
