PURPOSE OF JOB:

Teaches elementary school students academic, social, and motor skills in public schools by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  2. Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class.
  3. Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results.
  4. Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and hears oral presentations.
  5. Teaches rules of conduct.
  6. Maintains order in the classroom and on the playground.
  7. Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.
  8. Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  9. Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the school.
  10. Coordinates class field trips.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from a four-year College or University.
  2. Missouri State Certification in Elementary Education.

SUCCESS FACTORS:

  1. Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching elementary level students.
  2. Teaching experience in urban schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 187 workdays.
