POSITION SUMMARY:

Instructs students in one or more content areas, such as Reading, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. May be designated according to subject matter/content specialty. Utilizes current strategies and theories to plan and implement lessons. This position reports to the Principal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Instruct students using various teaching methods, such as lecture, audiovisual aids, demonstration, and other materials to supplement presentations relative to specific content field.
• Assign lessons and correct homework; administer tests to evaluate students’ progress, record results and issue reports to inform parents of progress. Maintain discipline in classroom. Supervise behavior outside the classroom (halls, bus, lunch/cafeteria, rest room duty).
• Prepare course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Conduct parent/teacher conferences to review student’s progress, performance, and behavior problems. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
• Perform all other duties as assigned and required to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience preferred.
• Make recommendations and/or decisions which usually affect the entire school.
• Certification by the State of Georgia in Education T-4 to T-7 as required by the GaPSC.
• Normal classroom/school setting.
• Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day. Light duty – mostly sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.
