Elementary Classroom Teacher

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing the district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing individual educational needs, creating a flexible, safe learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Promote a faith‑filled, safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
  • Administer classroom programs and instruct using daily lesson plans.
  • Implement a curriculum aligned with diocesan philosophy and direction.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at the designated locations and times.
  • Direct and evaluate the learning experience of students in accordance with diocesan goals and policies.
  • Cooperate with the principal and special education department regarding students requiring additional services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of assessments, grades, reports, discipline, and other classroom situations.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for assigned courses and recommend revisions to the principal.
  • Plan a program of study using varied instructional techniques and media that meets diverse student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Create a learning environment appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Provide a support system for students.
  • Implement the discipline plan following diocesan policy.
  • Administer pupil testing and assessment while maintaining records per diocesan policy.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Produce accurate and timely progress reports for parents.
  • Care for school property, equipment, and materials; report any damage or issues to the principal.
  • Submit requests for supplies and equipment to the principal or designee.
  • Participate in school activities.
  • Work with parents to foster and maintain positive, cooperative relationships.
  • Collaborate with parent groups to promote student‑serving programs.
  • Cooperate with grade‑level teachers for cooperative teaching efforts.
  • Work with special area teachers and special services personnel as appropriate.
  • Adhere to performance standards outlined in the diocesan evaluation procedure.
  • Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain classroom behavior standards.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Be available for parent–teacher conferences and other education‑related matters outside instructional hours.
  • Supervise field trips, recess, and other activities as requested.
  • Perform all other duties reasonably related to the position as assigned by the Building Administrator or Superintendent.
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators per Superintendent guidance.

Equipment

Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical and Mental Demands

Frequent movement, standing, and lifting of up to 10 pounds.

Qualifications
  • Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) for the specific position as required by the State.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledgeable of, and willing to promote, the Catholic faith.
  • Proficient with computers, including electronic mail, the Internet, Google Classroom, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Establish effective and courteous working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Communicate in an acceptable, courteous manner to students, parents, and staff.
  • Understand instructions, concepts, and principles and convey them appropriately.
  • Perform manual functions easily.
Experience

Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade level is preferred.
