Job summary

Gallup-McKinley County Schools is seeking a Teacher Special Education Elementary at Lincoln Elementary School in Gallup, NM. The role supports students with average and gifted abilities, and those with disabilities, per IEPs, within a 194-day contract and 7.5 hours per day.

Responsibilities include planning curricula, collaborating on multidisciplinary teams, and advising families while maintaining confidential records and adherence to district policies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of principles and practices of early childhood development and exceptional learning.
• Knowledge of local and state education structure and organization.
• Knowledge of cultural diversity and Native American beliefs of students and families.
• Familiarity with educational foundations of a school district, administration, funding resources, and record keeping.
• Understanding of current state and federal legislation regarding identification, evaluation and placement for children with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and materials to meet IEP goals and student needs.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to implement educational plans.
• Instructs students and develops individual teaching plans across self-help, motor, social, cognitive, and language skills.
• Revises teaching plans to match child development rate and needs.
• Counsels parents and refers families to social services when needed.
• Maintains confidential student records and complies with regulations.
• Maintains professional skills through ongoing training and growth activities.
• Delivers services and respects cultural diversity in planning for students and families.

Education

Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or related field
