Position Criteria
- Valid State of Iowa teaching license, required.
- Instructional Strategist I or II: BD/LD or ID, or willingness to obtain.
- Previous classroom teaching experience preferred.
- Willingness to pursue additional special education licensure based on building and student needs.
Performance Criteria:
- Strong collaboration and communication with parents, AEA, teachers, and support staff.
- Successful experience serving students with challenging behavior.
- Successful experience working with elementary learners on the autism spectrum.
- Knowledge of functions of behavior related to developing and implementing behavior intervention plans.
- Experience with challenging behaviors and willingness to serve on the building response team.
- CPI certification or willingness to obtain CPI certification.
- Ability to teach in both pull-out special education and collaborative general education settings.
- Ability to direct classroom associates with positive leadership skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Supports and effectively communicates Waukee’s mission and vision.
- Understanding of Professional Learning Communities and ability to apply that understanding in team situations.
- Knowledge and application of the Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students and Multi-Tiered System of Support.
- Implementation of research-supported instructional practices, differentiation, and integration of skills and concepts.
- Experience with workshop and gradual release models and commitment to differentiated instruction.
- Experience working with diverse learners and a desire to grow professionally.
- Recent professional learning and current research knowledge.
- Ability to interpret data and use data-driven decision-making to guide instruction.
- Understanding of formative assessment and using data to meet individual student needs.
- Support and implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
- Flexible, motivated, and enthusiastic about working with children.
- Effective routines and procedures to promote a positive classroom environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proven communication with parents and families.
- Knowledge and experience with current technology to enhance learning.
- Knowledge of 21st Century Skills, Universal Constructs, and integration of competencies, possibly linked to The Leader in Me.
