Qualifications
1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a preferred endorsement in Cognitive Impairment (SA), Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV), Emotional Impairment (SE). Other endorsements considered.
2. Successful experience as a teacher in special education within a self-contained classroom setting for students who require higher levels of adult support, preferred.
3. Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for assisting with lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age;repetitive stooping,squatting, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs), walking, kneeling and reaching whilemaintainingpersonalbalance andstability; implementing behavior intervention plans and performingthe essential job duties.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Duties
Knowledge of techniques of modification and accommodations as they related to the general education curriculum as well as the Essential Elements/alternative state standards.
Demonstrates an understanding of Cognitive Impairments and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder and how specially designed instruction should be delivered, preferred.
Proficient in developing Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance, measurable goals and objectives, and behavior plans.
Experience teaching the use of AAC devices.
Assesses students' achievement and develops instructional strategies to meet individual educational needs of students in the assigned area of responsibility.
Implements developmentally appropriate curriculum and strategies for students assigned to the classroom
Participates in multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings and prepares reports and multi-disciplinary plans for assigned students, in collaboration with a team including parents.
Participates in the implementation of health care procedures in accordance with administrative operating procedures.
Coordinates and implements behavior intervention plans in accordance with district policy and state/federal rules and regulations.
Participation in collecting data for functional behavior assessments (FBAs).
Maintains cooperative working relationships with parents, staff, other school district personnel and community services agencies.
Collaborates with general education staff to foster inclusion opportunities of students with IEPs.
Maintains effective and timely written and oral communication with parents, staff and other school personnel.
Maintains documentation regarding student progress and communicates regularly with students and parents.
Prepares and implements daily lesson plans consistent with each student's IEP.
Knowledge and experience for teaching pre-academic and academic subjects, as well as functional independence skills.
Participates in staff meetings, in-service activities, staff development/special programs, school improvement teams and planning committees as appropriate to the assignment.
Appropriate placement on the current Teacher's Master Agreement.
