Job description

Elementary Special Education Teacher (SEBS - Social Emotional/Behavioral Classroom)

Position open until filled.

Responsibilities
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plan a program of study tailored to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Guide the learning process to achieve district curriculum goals, establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepare for classes and provide evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employ various instructional techniques and media suited to the physical location and student needs.
  • Implement the district's educational philosophy, goals, and performance expectations.
  • Assess student progress regularly, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Diagnose learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists as necessary.
  • Take precautions to ensure student and staff safety.
  • Follow the district's code of conduct and develop fair classroom behavior rules.
  • Supervise and evaluate paraprofessional assignments.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Participate actively in the teacher evaluation process.
  • Attend meetings and school-sponsored activities to promote communication and decision-making.
  • Contribute to district and school decisions regarding budget, facilities, and curriculum.
Qualifications
  • Highly qualified with competency in the content area.
  • Appropriate educator license (Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities) and grade level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred and expected within 5 years.
