Responsibilities

  • Provides an appropriate program for special education students within federal/state guidelines.
  • Collaborates with regular classroom teachers to interpret student needs and assist with assignments.
  • Regularly communicates with parents and professional staff about student progress.
  • Assists staff to meet unique student needs.
  • Participates in screening and evaluating students with learning problems.
  • Helps students set educational and occupational goals aligned with abilities.
  • Motivates students to learn and maintains attendance records.
  • Engages in professional growth and attends relevant meetings and conferences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports To

Building Principal and Director of Special Education

Job Goal

To provide each special education student with an instructional program that will enable the student to achieve his/her fullest potential.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Provides and appropriate program for special education students consistent with federal and state guidelines.
  • Works cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of the special education students to the staff and assisting the special education student with regular class assignments.
  • Confers regularly with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of students.
  • Assists other professional staff members in meeting the unique needs of each student.
  • Assists in screening and evaluating students who are exhibiting learning problems.
  • Assists students in making realistic assessment of their abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities.
  • Provide motivation for learning.
  • Maintains attendance records and any other data pertinent to the special education program.
  • Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development; for keeping current with literature, new research findings, and improving techniques; and for attending appropriate professional meetings and conventions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
