Job summary

Springfield Public Schools seeks a Special Education Teacher - Intensive Support to provide instructional support in an elementary setting and other assigned areas. You will develop lesson plans, deliver group and individual instruction, and collaborate with teachers and administrators.

You will administer assessments, monitor IEP goals, communicate with families, and differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs while maintaining confidential records and ensuring a safe learning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related area is required.
  • Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Special Education certification in Missouri for mild-moderate disabilities is required.
  • Ability to gain and maintain 'Highly Qualified' status per Missouri standards is required.
  • Criminal Background Clearance must be satisfactory to the District.

Responsibilities

  • Administers developmental testing programs and assessments to determine student needs and IEP goals.
  • Administers under supervision first aid and basic care for students as assigned.
  • Advises parents/guardians on student progress and home support methods.
  • Assesses progress toward IEP goals and provides feedback to students and families.
  • Collaborates with teachers, staff and administrators to improve student outcomes.
  • Case manages individualized education programs (IEP).
  • Provides an educational program addressing individual student needs.
  • Differentiates instruction to meet individualized learning plans within lesson plans.
  • Directs student teachers, paraprofessionals and volunteers to support classroom goals.
  • Facilitates learning environments utilizing technology and age-appropriate activities.
  • Instructs students to improve academic, interpersonal and daily living skills.
  • Maintains confidential and non-confidential records (IEPs, test scores, etc.).
  • Manages student behavior to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Monitors students across various settings (classroom, playground, field trips).
  • Participates in meetings (IEPs, PD, staff meetings) to share and gather information.
  • Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, IEPs, reports) documenting progress.
  • Reports health and safety concerns to appropriate personnel and agencies.
