Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through ARD process for each student.
  • Assess student learning styles and plan instructional strategies reflecting individual needs.
  • Present subject matter per IEP guidelines; use varied instructional techniques and media.
  • Work with classroom teachers to modify curricula and assist special education students in regular classes.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and instructional media.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Provide or supervise personal and medical care as stated in IEP.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities approved by campus principal.
  • Consult district and outside resources regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development.
  • Manage student behavior; intervene in crises and use physical restraint as per IEP.
  • Consult on behavior management with teachers as per IEP.
  • Protect students, equipment, and facilities; take necessary precautions.
  • Plan and supervise teacher aides and volunteers; oversee completion.
  • Establish open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of regulations and policies for special education teachers.
  • Compile and file reports and records; ensure compliance.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team and provide students with meaningful learning experiences tailored to their unique needs. This position focuses on fostering intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth while equipping students with essential skills to thrive in society.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for special education students.
  • Provide engaging and differentiated instruction that meets diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure student success.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
  • Work closely with HONDA SSA to support student achievement and compliance with special education requirements.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
  • 1. Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned.
  • 2. Conduct assessment of student learning styles. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • 3. Present subject matter effectively and according to guidelines established by IEP. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media including technology to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
  • 4. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.
  • 5. Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
  • 6. Participate in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional media.
Student Growth and Development
  • 7. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • 8. Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP.
  • 9. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.
  • 10. Consult district and outside resource people regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • 11. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • 12. Manage student behavior and administer discipline including intervening in crisis situations and physically restraining students as necessary according to IEP.
  • 13. Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to IEP.
  • 14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • 15. Plan and assign the work of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

Other

  • 16. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • 17. Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • 18. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • 19. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
  • 20. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • 21. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • 22. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
