Job summary

VOICE Charter School in Long Island City, Queens seeks an Elementary Special Education Coordinator and Teacher to lead data‑driven instruction and collaborate with staff to meet IEPs and state standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • New York State teaching certification required; candidate must be fully certified by day one or on track to be.
  • Teaching or student‑teaching experience in a school required.
  • Experience with high‑needs students preferred.
  • New York State certification in Students with Disabilities, Special Education, or ESL.
  • Humility, patience, and kindness in professional practice.
  • Ability to influence and facilitate decision‑making among diverse parties.
  • Urgency, multi‑project management, and initiative.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and data‑driven.
  • Commitment to VOICE’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and healthy learning environment that nurtures, motivates and challenges all children to achieve the highest level of academic excellence and to develop into mindful, responsible, contributing participants in their education and communities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop purposeful, rigorous daily and long‑term plans aligned to standards; submit curriculum documents and assessments; monitor progress.
  • Provide targeted push‑in and pull‑out academic support; teach small‑group instruction; ensure that all SETSS and ESL mandates are met.
  • Facilitate Academic Intervention Service (IS) meetings; support data‑driven decisions; coordinate records and tests.
  • Fully participate in school and grade‑level meetings; maintain punctuality and professionalism; supervise arrivals, transitions, and activities.
