2025-2026 Elementary School Science & Sustainability Teacher (Jamaica)

Mission Statement: The Growing Up Green Charter School (GUGCS) supports children to be conscious, contributing members of their community through a rigorous, anti-racist, anti-bias curriculum and engaging green culture. Graduates of GUGCS will be prepared to attend high-performing schools where their interdisciplinary academic foundation, knowledge of sustainability, and a strong sense of self set them apart as leaders and social justice advocates of the future.

Responsibilities
  1. Implement GUGCS curricular programs
  2. Lead a K-5th grade science program focusing on environmental awareness, green living practices, climate change, healthy eating, activism, and more.
  3. Plan and organize field trips and outdoor learning experiences related to science and sustainability
  4. Align instruction with state science standards
  5. Lead school-wide sustainability initiatives and events
  6. Collaborate with the other Elementary School Science & Sustainability Teacher
  7. Integrate curriculum across subject areas with grade team
  8. Use the Responsive Classroom model for community-building and behavior management
  9. Differentiate instruction to meet all learners' needs
  10. Follow subject-specific pacing calendars
  11. Maintain organized records of assessments and anecdotal notes
  12. Administer assessments, use data to inform instruction and support students
  13. Participate in planning meetings and create engaging classroom environments
  14. Build positive relationships with families
  15. Engage actively in school community and professional development
  16. Collaborate with instructional coach and support staff to meet goals
  17. Respond to ongoing professional feedback
  18. Support diverse student populations, including at-risk students
  19. Plan lessons based on provided curricular materials
  20. Demonstrate commitment to sustainability and diversity
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Strong commitment to GUGCS's mission and green theme
  2. Knowledge or background in sustainability or environmental awareness
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers
  4. Knowledge of Responsive Classroom
  5. Experience in environmental education or science teaching is a plus
  6. Experience with technology integration
  7. Excellent organizational skills
  8. Starting salary: $62,902, based on experience and education
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • At least two years of elementary classroom teaching experience
Required Certificates & Licenses
  • Teaching certificate
  • NYC DOE/Fingerprinting & Background Clearance
