Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or other content related field
  • 2 years of teaching experience with K-8 students preferred. Student teaching experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging content to elementary school students is preferred.
  • Energetic approach to learning
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff
  • Experience meeting the needs of all students
  • Respect for individual differences and individuality.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience working with elementary school students.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Instructor for Gross Biology course for the Growing Early Minds program. Program dates are June 16-20, 2025. The instructor for this course will be tasked with designing and teaching a one week course (approx. 15 instructional hours) for students in grades 2-4. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 12 elementary school students. Course description listed below:

Prepare to be amazed, astonished, and maybe even a little grossed out in Gross Biology! Here you’ll go on a mind-boggling quest to uncover the squirmy, slimy, creepy, crawly, and downright bizarre features of the natural world. You’ll be intrigued by parasites, mucus, bacteria, and more! Put on a brave face, and maybe some gloves, as you complete hands-on experiments to uncover the purpose of some of nature’s oddities. By the end of class, you’ll challenge your perceptions of what it really means to be gross.

Instructors are responsible for:

  • Planning an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced elementary school students. A previous curriculum is available for this course.
  • Meeting in spring with Badger Precollege administrators to develop curriculum
  • Completing all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at UW Madison
  • Participating in staff orientation before the program begins
  • Attending virtual instructor check in meetings scheduled throughout the program.
  • Completing post program student evaluation materials.
