Job summary

Newington SD is seeking a Permanent Building Substitute to support elementary schools. Daily rates are $143.22 for non-certified and $175.05 for certified staff, for the current school year with a closing date of 11/20/2026.

The substitute will deliver lessons, supervise lunch, follow lesson plans, and maintain a positive classroom environment. Responsibilities include ensuring district policies, safety procedures, confidentiality and professionalism, plus reporting 30 minutes early and staying

• Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular instructor.
• Ensure district policies are observed during all activities.
• Responsible for daily cafeteria supervision.
• Create a safe classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
• Be familiar with fire exits, drills, storm and tornado procedures; review notes, take attendance, follow lesson plans.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Demonstrate adaptability and good judgment while on assignment.
• Report for duty 30 minutes early and stay on duty for the entire assignment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
• Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
• Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
• Responsible for daily cafeteria supervision.
• Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
• Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
• Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures. Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
• Report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
• Leave detailed notes for teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or the Substitute Office.
