Job summary

The University of Chicago Charter School is seeking a School Nurse for the Donoghue Elementary campus in Chicago, IL. This full-time, 10-month role provides nursing services, basic first aid, and medication administration in a elementary setting.

Responsibilities include student health assessments, implementing health plans, documenting care in the health record, and coordinating with families and school staff to ensure student well-being.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university is required.
• Active Illinois nursing license to practice as issued by the IL Department of Professional Regulation.
• CPR certification with hands-on component (AHA preferred).
• Prior nursing experience in a school setting or with children is preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, students and families.
• Sound records management and computer skills; familiarity with EHR systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing services within the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
• Assess student health concerns and determine nursing interventions.
• Care for students who are ill or injured and stabilize emergencies.
• Notify nursing supervisor, parents/guardians, or emergency services as needed.
• Enter required health information into the school’s health record system.
• Communicate health status changes to the nursing supervisor and staff.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings as requested.
