A leading educational institution is seeking an Elementary School Librarian to support a culture of literacy and manage library services at Spring Hill Elementary. The job requires a valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate with an endorsement in library science, media services, or school librarian. Candidates enrolled in a library certification/endorsement program may qualify through ASD’s Grow Your Own Librarian (GRYOL) program. Evidence of content knowledge can be demonstrated by a posted degree, minor, passing Praxis scores, or endorsement in the content area. Additional requirements include a valid Alaska type C special services certificate with an endorsement in library science, media services, or media specialist, and a master's degree.
The librarian supports a culture of literacy, engages students in literature and lifelong reading, and uses standards such as the American Association of School Librarians Learner Standards and ISTE Learner Standards. Responsibilities include designing and supporting grade-level learning experiences, managing the library collection and budget, creating flexible learning spaces, and leading technology integration and professional learning. The role also involves maintaining an online presence, participating in decision-making teams, and engaging in ongoing professional development.
