Job summary

BAYOU BLUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Houma, LA is seeking a School Custodian to maintain classrooms, grounds, and facilities. The role requires safe operation of tools and equipment, physical endurance, and reliability in daily housekeeping tasks.

The position reports to the Principal, with 8 hours per day across a 12-month calendar. A valid driver’s license and ability to pass a physical exam are required. Salary is based on experience and district policy.

Qualifications

• High school or trade school degree preferred; ability to read and write and perform basic arithmetic.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs daily and work safely around tools and equipment.
• Ability to operate power tools and small machinery; follow safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Performs cleaning and preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Maintains cleanliness of classrooms, grounds, and entire site.
• Transport tools, supplies, equipment as needed on school sites.
• Attend training opportunities to improve skills.
• Operate tools and equipment such as saws, drills, wrenches.
• Make simple measurements and handle materials per instructions.
• Operate small machinery like weed eaters, blowers, mowers, chain saws.
• Check and replace bulbs; inspect emergency lighting regularly.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
