Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools seeks an Elementary School Counselor to provide a comprehensive counseling program across elementary schools. The role collaborates with teachers, parents and staff to enhance student educational, personal and social development.

Responsibilities include guiding students in life skills, coordinating with school teams, and delivering a developmental counseling program aligned with IEP/RtI/CIP processes; 9-month schedule with standard certified pay scale for Alabama

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or higher in School Counseling from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama Professional Certificate in Education.
• Minimum of 2 years of satisfactory teaching experience with evidence of significant impact on student achievement.

Responsibilities

• Guide individuals and groups of students through educational, personal, social and career development.
• Counsel individuals and small groups toward social and foundational wellness.
• Consult with and train teachers, parents and staff regarding children's needs.
• Coordinate with special programs and outside agencies for students with behavioral or social challenges.
• Participate in and help coordinate counseling program activities and school operations.
• Facilitate intervention team processes and implement guidance curriculum.
• Plan and evaluate the counseling program and establish rapport with students.
• Serve as designee on committees such as IEP, RtI, CIP, and others.
• Provide resources and guidance to teachers to integrate counseling content into instruction.
• Support parent education and contribute to school newsletters and communications.

Education

Master’s Degree or higher in School Counseling from an accredited college or university

Valid Alabama Professional Certificate in Education
