The counselor collaborates with scholars, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to remove barriers to learning and promote a safe, college-going culture. The role involves delivering classroom guidance, monitoring attendance and progress, participating in MTSS/RTI2 and 504

Qualifications

• Master's degree in School Counseling or closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Valid Tennessee school counseling license or eligibility to obtain credential.
• Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, crisis response, and SEL concepts.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, collaboration, data-review, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group counseling to address academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and personal needs.
• Deliver developmentally appropriate classroom guidance on decision-making, conflict resolution, character development, coping skills, attendance, bullying prevention, and healthy peer relationships.
• Monitor attendance, behavior, academic progress, and other early-warning indicators; coordinate supports with families.
• Participate in MTSS/RTI2, student support, attendance, behavior, Section 504, and related meetings.
• Collaborate to develop and monitor interventions, behavior supports, re-entry plans, and student success plans.
• Provide crisis response, risk assessment, and referrals when scholars experience grief, trauma, or safety concerns.
• Connect families with school, community, mental-health, housing, food, or other support resources.
• Promote regular attendance and transitions; support college and career awareness starting in elementary grades.
• Maintain accurate, secure counseling records and uphold confidentiality and school procedures.
• Communicate professionally with parents/guardians while safeguarding student privacy.
• Support district initiatives that strengthen belonging, positive behavior, leadership, citizenship, and safe learning environments.
