Job summary

  • Completion of LETRS training is preferred.

  • Provide targeted literacy interventions daily to students not meeting grade-level benchmarks.
  • Diagnose and evaluate student literacy abilities using research-based assessments.
  • Assess students' progress and provide reports as required.
  • Contribute to and participate in schoolwide literacy initiatives.
  • Maintain systems to manage literacy data for effective interventions.
  • Abide by Missouri statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law and district policy.

About KCIA:

Kansas City International Academy (KCIA) is a kindergarten through 8th grade charter school located in the Kansas City Missouri School District. KCIA's focus is creating a world class school with an international focus. Many of KCIA's students are members of families who have immigrated to Kansas City from more than 25 different countries. About the Position:

The role of the Reading Tutor is to provide high-quality instruction, support and intervention in the areas of reading and literacy to ensure all students develop the skills to become proficient readers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide targeted literacy interventions daily to students who are not meeting grade-level reading benchmarks.
  • Diagnose and evaluate student literacy abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner using research-based assessments.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Contribute to and participate in schoolwide literacy initiatives.
  • Maintain systems to manage literacy data to ensure interventions and instruction are effective and assist in the identification and progress of struggling readers.
  • Abide by Missouri statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
Qualifications:
  • Must hold proper teaching certification according to the state of Missouri
  • Must hold a graduate certificate and/or master’s degree in reading instruction (preferred)
  • Excellent record of success in providing successful, research-based reading strategies to improve student outcomes
  • Completion of LETRS training is preferred
