Job summary

Sankofa Montessori in Georgia seeks a Reading Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year to deliver standards-aligned literacy instruction to K-2 students, grounded in evidence-based practices and the Science of Reading. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Georgia certified teacher required.
• Two+ years of elementary teaching in a high-needs public school environment.
• Demonstrated success teaching reading in primary grades.
• Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction and the Science of Reading.
• Experience using literacy assessment data to inform instruction.
• Strong instructional practices and classroom management skills.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Warm and firm demeanor.
• Collaborate with others with a growth mindset; give/receive feedback.
• Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Commitment to Sankofa Montessori's mission and willingness to go above and beyond.
• Successful background check results required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver standards-aligned reading instruction to first and second grade students.
• Plan and implement engaging literacy lessons grounded in evidence-based practices.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Administer and analyze literacy assessments to inform planning.
• Use data to provide targeted small-group instruction and accelerate growth.
• Submit lesson plans weekly and incorporate feedback.
• Monitor progress and adjust instruction based on results.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to align literacy instruction.
• Participate in MTSS/IEP meetings as appropriate.
• Lead family communication regarding literacy progress.
