Job Title: Elementary Professional Development Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Elementary Education

Classification: Certified

Length of Contract: 200 Days

Job Summary

The Elementary PD Coordinator is part of the leadership team of HCCSC. As a member of this team, employees may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested. The PD Coordinator is separate and apart from the evaluative role of the principal or supervisor of the teacher. The PD Coordinator provides job-embedded and ongoing professional development for teachers, staff, and administration. He/She provides support to the principal(s) and school staff(s) in data analysis and professional development decision-making. He/She provides group and individual professional development and guidance to teachers that will expand and refine their understanding of research based effective instruction. In order to fulfill these expectations, the PD Coordinator will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers in support of the school improvement action plan(s) and/or district initiatives. Overall, the job of the coach is to build the capacity of the school and its teachers to meet the learning needs of all students.

  • Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers
  • Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators
  • Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance and improved classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district
  • Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers
  • Assist teachers with designing instructional materials that are aligned with curriculum and making decisions based on assessment data and culturally responsive practices. (Primary support for teachers will include, but not be limited to, in-class coaching, observing, goal-setting with teachers to aid in personal reflection, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in analysis of student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, and co-planning with teachers.)
  • Instruct and support teachers with curriculum software products, and classroom/curriculum related technologies
  • Support, implement and assess various instructional programs and program effects on student achievement
  • Provides input for program development
  • Supports implementation of assessment tools

Ancillary Job Functions

Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.

Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.

Support teachers with implementing intervention strategies.

Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.

Model lessons when appropriate.

Manage time and schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning.

Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.

Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments.

Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies.

Attend appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills.

Required Qualifications - required qualifications to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

  • Possession of Indiana Teacher License
  • Must have a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary level with evaluations reflecting Highly Effective or Effective teacher practice.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practices
  • Familiar with the MTSS process and Tiered Instruction
  • Masters Degree in Education
  • Reading Specialist certification
  • Experience in an instructional coaching or related role
