Job description

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, serves as the chief school administrator responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets that promote educational and staff development. Supervises assistant principals, teachers, counselors, and auxiliary personnel. Provides educational leadership to develop and present optimal educational programs ensuring a quality experience for each student.

Essential Functions

  1. Acts as instructional leader, guiding the school toward continuous academic improvement.
  2. Tracks and facilitates increased student achievement.
  3. Works effectively with diverse populations.
  4. Evaluates and recommends improvements for instructional programs; initiates innovative programs and activities.
  5. Maintains communication with supervisors regarding school developments.
  6. Supports district philosophy by formulating objectives; supervises schedules and grading systems.
  7. Directs instructional programs to meet individual student needs.
  8. Selects and assigns staff based on certification and talents; conducts faculty meetings.
  9. Supervises personnel evaluations.
  10. Handles disciplinary actions involving students.
  11. Evaluates activity programs and supervises after-school and evening activities.
  12. Supports programs aiding student transition from early childhood to elementary levels.
  13. Prepares monthly accountability reports for review.
  14. Develops and manages the school’s annual budget and expenditures.
  15. Creates a School Improvement Plan (SIP) based on student needs, presenting it to the Superintendent and Board.
  16. Prepares annual reports for district leadership.
  17. Coordinates school operations and approves expenditures.
  18. Evaluates school-sponsored activities, including outside normal hours.
  19. Collaborates on district-wide objectives and staff grievance processes.
  20. Supervises student records and reports for external agencies or district use.

Marginal Functions

  1. Attends district meetings as required.
  2. Prepares handbooks, schedules, and materials for school opening.
  3. Engages in professional development activities.

Physical/Visual Demands

  • Includes standing, walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing.
  • Requires normal visual acuity at various distances and field of vision.
  • Light physical effort, including lifting items up to 25 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in education from an accredited institution.
  • Principal's certificate issued by Missouri DESE or pending completion of Assessment Center (must be valid before employment).
  • At least 5 years of successful elementary classroom teaching experience.
  • Proven administrative/supervisory experience.
  • Training in instructional management, curriculum development, and evaluation.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to work with staff, students, parents, and community groups.

  • Ability to apply rational systems principles to solve practical problems.
  • Proficiency in mathematics and advanced reading, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills with various stakeholders.

License(s)/Certification(s): Elementary Principal’s Certificate from Missouri DESE.
