Job description

St Mark School (Venice, CA) is currently seeking a Physical Education (P.E.) Teacher who will also serve as our Athletic Director and Summer Program Coordinator. This full time role requires a passionate and organized individual who is committed to leading a robust and successful athletics program and summer program in the thriving school community in Venice.

Saint Mark School is a non-profit, non-discriminatory school of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the heart of Venice, providing Catholic education according to the standards established by the Archdiocese and certified by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA). Duties include:

PE Teacher role:

  • Plan and implement P.E. lessons for grades TK–8, focusing on movement, sports-related skills, fitness activities, and games

  • Supervise students during recess and lunch

  • Promote and model good sportsmanship, conflict resolution skills, and healthy lifestyle choices

  • Evaluate student outcomes and maintain accurate student records

Athletic Director

  • Organize and manage the after-school sports program, including:

    • Recruiting coaches who meet CYO/AYSO certification requirements and submitting names for principal’s consideration

    • Coordinating practices and games, including occasional weekend events

    • Communicating regularly with parents about schedules and expectations

  • Supervises, observes, and evaluates all faculty and non-faculty coaches, ensuring adherence to school and league policies.

  • Serves as the school representative at league meetings and athletic events.

  • Manages the hiring process for new coaches, including recruitment, interviews, and recommendations to the Principal.

  • Assists the Principal in the annual revision of faculty and student handbooks regarding athletic policies and procedures.

  • Establishes clear disciplinary procedures for student-athletes and enforcement of team policies.

  • Collaborates with the Principal in developing and managing the athletic department budget, including equipment purchasing.

  • Maintains records of student eligibility, athletic participation, injuries, and medical documentation.

Summer Program

  • Develops and oversees the summer program, that includes recreations and academic components

  • Recruitment of a summer teacher team

  • Marketing and registration of student participants

Celebrations and Community

  • Plan and organize school-wide athletic events, including:

    • Field Day

    • End of Seasons Sports Banquet

The range for this position is $52,616 to $82,439. Stipends for coaching and summer program additional.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field (or currently in progress)

  • California Single Subject Credential in Physical Education (preferred or in progress)

  • Coaching experience required

  • Organizational management experience preferred

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church’s moral teaching preferred

  • Actively participate in the faith and life of the school community

  • Open to professional growth opportunities and committed to innovation in student learning

  • Virtus Certification

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Fingerprinting through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles (ADLA)

  • Recent TB Test

St Mark School offers a competitive salary that is above the ADLA teacher’s salary scale, in addition to medical, dental and vision benefits and participation in a 403b retirement program.
