Job summary

Cohasset Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Music & Band Teacher 3-5 as a long-term substitute at Deer Hill School in Cohasset, MA. The assignment runs from December 14, 2026, through March 12, 2027.

You will plan units, teach wind and percussion, accompany on piano, program repertoire, and direct performances for school and community. You will collaborate with special education staff, monitor student progress, and maintain records while engaging students with developmentally appropriate

Qualifications

• Massachusetts Teaching Licensure in Music is required.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
• SEI Certification is preferred.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan units and lessons that foster a coherent and rigorous progression of learning, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employ a variety of developmentally appropriate instructional techniques.
• Demonstrate basic accompaniment on piano/keyboard.
• Demonstrate proficiency and an ability to teach beginners on all wind and percussion instruments.
• Effectively program repertoire that is grade level and performance appropriate.
• Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Assess the progress of students on a regular basis and use these assessments to inform instruction.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Plan and collaborate with special education teachers and classroom aides in order to support academic progress of students on IEPs, 504 Plans, or any other education plans.
• Identify pupil academic and social emotional needs and collaborate with other professional staff members and families to address those needs.
• Control the storage and use of school-owned property.
• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders on pupils’ progress.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities related to music.
• Attend staff and team meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

Massachusetts Teaching Licensure in Music
