NJDOE School Library Media Specialist Certification required or eligibility for emergent certification. Start date 11/2/26 or sooner; responsibilities include operating the media center, cataloging, and collaborating with teachers to integrate information literacy into the curriculum.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Library Media Specialist or eligibility for emergent certification.

Responsibilities

• Operation and supervision of the school media center.
• Cataloging system for media center materials and instruction to teachers and students on system use.
• Coordinate library skills instruction with classroom instruction and collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy across curricula.
• Assist teachers in selecting books and materials and make media center materials available to supplement instructional programs.
• Evaluate, select, and requisition new media center materials and inform staff of acquisitions.
• Provide a sequential program of library skills instruction and instruct students in using various materials and information technology.
• Help students develop independent reference work habits and skill in using reference materials for planned assignments.
• Conduct in-service education for teachers on media evaluation, selection and use; maintain professional library materials for teacher use.
• Present and discuss materials with classes studying topics as requested by teachers.
• Prepare and administer the media center budget.
• Supervise clerical activities for media center operations.
• Promote relationships with external information sources and participate in networks to access information globally.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education and other development activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
