Qualifications

• High School Diploma; Associate Degree preferred.
• As of January 8, 2006, meet one of the following three requirements: (a) 2 years of study in an education-related field, (b) an associate’s or higher degree in an education-related field, or (c) demonstrated knowledge and ability to assist in reading, writing and mathematics per a formal assessment (ParaPro/local).
• Successful completion of a RIDE-approved Teacher Assistant Training Program.
• Demonstrate patience, tact, confidentiality and professionalism in dealings with students, parents, teachers, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of certified teachers, prepare for classroom activities aligned with instructional goals.
• Work individually and with small groups to reinforce concepts previously taught.
• Assist with preparation and delivery of instruction as requested.
• Participate in in-service training programs as required.
• Assist with supervision of students and maintain communication with staff, students and parents.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and assist with documentation.

Education

High School Diploma; Associate Degree preferred.
