Elementary Head Custodian
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three years’ experience performing work, directing operations and personnel in custodial services or other similar service industry.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of housekeeping practices and materials.
- Ability to schedule work of other custodians.
- Knowledge of minor equipment repairs.
- Knowledge of routine maintenance.
- Bending, lifting up to 70 lbs. routinely, climbing, and standing for extended periods are required.
- May be exposed to dust, dirt, chemicals, inclement weather, ultraviolet radiation, and bloodborne pathogens.
- Work is both indoors and outdoors.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Co-supervision of the Director of Physical Plant, Custodial Managers, and Building Administrator

JOB GOALS:
Performs custodial work required for the routine care, maintenance, protection, and preservation of the assigned building, its contents, and immediate grounds. Directs custodial staff to maintain the facility, enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize educational opportunities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform work and direct staff to provide efficient, safe, and timely services.
- Maintain a safe environment conducive to student learning and public gathering. Ensure the facility is properly heated, ventilated, and cooled; report major issues to Facilities.
- Ensure cleanliness meets District standards.
- Manage snow removal to meet safety standards.
- Assist in safeguarding school property against theft or pilferage.
- Plan and carry out daily, weekly, and annual services.
- Order and maintain sufficient supplies.
- Direct custodial staff in required services.
- Respond to the needs of building administrators, including arrangements for lunch, evening activities, and meetings.
- Assist in evaluating and training new employees.
- Complete minor repair jobs as materials, tools, and time permit.
- Review and improve services to meet changing needs.
- Communicate clearly using verbal and written methods.
- Utilize computer skills for email and data entry in the electronic work order system.
- Perform work and operate equipment including cleaning agents, vacuums, yard equipment, snow removal machines, furniture dollies, floor care machines, hand tools, ladders, scaffolding, and man lifts.
- Perform exterior work such as snow removal, playground mulch maintenance, entryway upkeep, parking lot maintenance, trash collection, damage reporting, and perimeter checks.
- Other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Contract days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated according to the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.
